Instructors who are not well conversant with the tempo of music desired for the different classes they do, often end up using the same music or tempo for all classes. This deters the proper execution of techniques, meaning that at the end of the day, all the sweat does not really signify any fitness gain.

One needs to understand the type of training they are up to. If the target is the muscles then medium tempo music is the best. Aerobics music, beginners who are yet to understand the improtance of proper form, need to of medium tempo to allow the clients activate the different muscles targeted by the various techniques. Medium tempo music allows one to really hit the targeted muscles without as it gives one room to properly execute the techniques.

High tempo music, on the other side, is good for cardio classes. At around 80 to 90 rpm, it is not easy for one to execute full techniques. The concentration is usually on completeting the movement in the fastest time possible and not executing it right. Proper execution of techniques is usually compromised when using high tempo music. However, if the goal of the class is to target the cardio vascular system then this can do.

So the next time you go a class be sure what you are targeting, the cardio system or the muscle.
